(QNO) - Bui Thi Thu’s start-up idea of extracting essential oil from lemongrass has won 2nd prize at the start-up ideas contest 2023, themed Nui Thanh female start-ups 4.0 organised by the Nui Thanh District Women's Union.
Bui Thi Thu is living in Tam Anh Nam commune (Nui Thanh, Quang Nam), where so much lemongrass is grown. Lemongrass is traditionally used as a spice for grilled foods and as a cold-relieving medicinal herb.
Lemongrass essential oil has been demonstrated to be useful for human health and beauty. So, Thu decided to choose lemongrass for her entrepreneurship.
Thu’s lemongrass essential oil facility covers an area of 30m2, using all the local lemongrass. Currently, Thu produces 200 - 250 liters of lemongrass essential oil each year and sells them to several provinces in the country, such as Gia Lai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and Ben Tre provinces.
Besides lemongrass essential oil, Thu produces cajeput oil and cinnamon oil.
She wishes to receive more financial and advertising support so that her products can be diversified and easily access the market.
