The banyan at Bang Tan communal house (Dai Dong Commune, Dai Loc District) has recently been recognised as a Vietnamese Heritage Tree. This is a great honour and pride that the local government and people have.
Reportedly, the banyan was planted around 1771 at Bang Tan communal house, the place to worship the village’s ancestors, pray for local peace, and organise traditional cultural activities.
Bang Tan banyan, at the age of 250, has a circumference of 16m, a diameter of 4m, and a height of 17m. Its shadow covers a large area where the village’s festivals and ritual, religious, and spiritual cultural events were held.
The Bang Tan village community is always conscious of protecting and taking care of the tree.
Besides, Bang Tan yanyan is a great treasure with cultural and historic values in Dai Dong commune. The local government will raise local awareness of heritage tree values so that the tree will be well protected.
The recognition of Bang Tan Banyan as a Vietnamese Heritage Tree contributes to promoting the local role to preserve rare plant genetic resources, honour cultural values, and protect natural landscapes and biodiversity.
